Young Entrepreneurs Tackling Non-Sexy Problems
When you think “young entrepreneur” you immediately think “dot com” or “Web 2.0.” It’s natural. Lots of Web 2.0 businesses are started by young entrepreneurs and young = cool, right? Fair enough, but what I love to see is a young entrepreneur tackling a non-sexy problem…or, for us older folk (OK, I’m not that old) … a “real business problem.”
One of the top 25 entrepreneurs listed in BusinessWeek’s recent article on young entrepreneurs is Ben Casnocha. His company is Comcate, Inc..
Comcate provides web-based software for public agencies, focusing on improving customer service and increasing staff efficiency. Real problems, but not terribly sexy. It’s rare for young entrepreneurs to be interested in and focused on operations, but that’s what Ben’s into.
Sadly, it doesn’t look like there’s a blog at Comcate’s website, which I think would be a great way for Ben to get his message out about why public agencies need organizational and operational help.
Ben does have a personal blog on entrepreneurship, books, current affairs, etc.
I’m all for uber-sexy, uber-cool Web 2.0 businesses, but it’s nice to see young entrepreneurs tackling non-sexy, real business issues.
