Why being honest pays in the long run

by ShannonCherry on March 19th, 2008

In Albany, NY, where I live, we hear all the gossip about politicians. (Well, I will admit NO ONE I know, including people who work for the governor, knew about Eliot’s secret.)

As for the newly sworn in governor, David Patterson, many insiders and outsiders knew about his affairs. So he was smart that soon after taking the reigns, Patterson publicly admitted his infidelities, as did his wife.

The rumors are now dead.  He made it a fact, so that skeleton is out of the closet - and can’t be used to make backroom deals or create a new NYS scandal. It makes people look forward, not to the past.

This is something all businesses, even in startup mode, should remember.  After all, once you tell the truth there may be a little backlash, but hiding it makes it so much wore. It ruins careers and businesses.
