Thanks Shannon and Jen for the great topic! I can really identify with the part about having to talk to strangers–I tend to freeze up when faced with a group of people I don’t know.

My worst networking nightmare happened when I was VERY new to owning a business. This older guy at a networking meeting got it into his head that I was a student at the local university, and thought he would “help” me by publicly critiquing me throughout the meeting. When we traded business cards, he launched into this scathing review of mine, saying that it didn’t tell anything about what I did and how it wouldn’t work when I “got out there into the business world”. He then gave me pointers on my 30-second commercial…in front of everyone there! I seriously considered hiding under one of the tables. :)

For my second-worst networking nightmare, I had actually gone up and started a conversation with this fellow at an event. Although the conversation was all business, the guy called me every day for the next week asking for a date.

I look forward to hearing everyone’s horror stories, and thanks again for the great topic!
