Staring a Business is as Easy as Signing Your Name

Do you remember when you first mastered your signature? The one you practiced a thousand times over to make sure it looked suitably messy (i.e. authoritative) but was also somewhat readable and of course, unique. It was probably around the same time you realized that a lemonade stand was not the pathway to riches.

Starting a new business is easy. Starting a successful business on the other hand…

To start a business you’ll need to sign a lot of things. For example:

• incorporation papers
• partnership agreements
• non-disclosure agreements
• RFPs
• vendor agreements
• contracts
• credit applications
• a lease
• checks
• etc.

The list is endless. Sign this. Sign that. Easy right?

Well…yes, and no. Signing your name is easy enough (you’ve got that doctor-lawyer-entrepreneur mashup signature after all!) but what you put your name on is a different story. How can you navigate the mindfield of paperwork, payments, and possibilities that come with starting a business?

That’s where Startup Spark will help. I want to take all of us through the steps of starting a new business, from the moment the idea forms in your head (is it a growing seed or an explosion of fireworks?) to the day you put an “open for business” sign on your door. And let’s hope we get beyond that point too…a little success never hurt anyone right?

We’ll stumble along the way (that’s part of the process), debate (no flaming please!), sing songs and laugh. My expertise is in the world of web and software development, but this isn’t a Web 2.0 blog. It’s not a technology blog. It’s a blog about entrepreneurship. Whether you’re starting a retail business, going B2B, flying solo or selling lemonade on the street corner, my goal is to provide insight, an open mind, a strong shoulder to lean on and some valuable resources.
