Obama - the little startup that could

by ShannonCherry on June 9th, 2008

I just read one of the best stories of the week, by Steve Strauss, comparing Barak Obama to a startup.

And Steve is right on the money.  Obama won because he knew who he was, and stick to it.

get yourself heard by standing outYou have to do that when in business too.  You need to show why you are unique and an expert in your field, even when others try to pigeon-hole you.

For example, there’s a woman locally who does local PR. And she’s made a great name for herself. But when I meet with people locally they always try to compare me to her. I make a clear distinction that we are very different. (She’s more of a writer; I’m more of a publicist. She works mainly on the local front; I work nationally and on the Internet.)

The more I distinguish myself, the more people are finding me - and want to do business with me.
