MySpace launching new platform for startups
The New York Times is reporting that MySpace is branching out, perhaps to reshape their image of having too much unwanted spam and sexually suggestive material which has driven some users away.
Tentatively called Slingshot Labs, it’s an incubator that will help form new companies and function like a start-up. Slingshot Labs will be supported partially by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.
Although some are saying this move is to position MySpace against FaceBook’s grant program fbFund, it sounds like a different proposition all together.
I’m a MySpace refugee - and work with Facebook much more. Will I come back to MySpace for Slingshot Labs? Not sure.
Will you?

If it helps me sell and connect with customers of course I’ll use it.

MySpace will never recoup their losses as a potential business medium. They went for the young demo’s and succeeded. Now they have to live with their market share.
I would use it if I am wrong, and time will tell.

Many people don’t like myspace, but that is not stopping there success. While business people are discovering social networks and Facebook is building a great reputation, MySpace STILL consistently gets more traffic than google. And almost 1/2 of the users are OVER 40! So whether you like it or not, MySpace is still thriving. As for me, I like the simplicity of myspace and the more casual atmosphere. At the same time, I am discovering some great applications on Facebook. Yes, I use them both!

I was shocked to see myspace on the Super Bowl commercials last night but then again, they are huge among the industry. I don’t know what this merger will bring but I am looking forward to some changes. Facebook looks as if it’s more professional than myspace. It depends on what style you are looking for at the end.
