How’s the increase effecting you?

by ShannonCherry on May 9th, 2008

With all the news about gas prices and food prices soaring, I was wondering how such increases are effecting entrepreneurs.the price for doing business today

For me, since I run a virtual PR firm, the increases haven’t hurt my business. But I can imagine a restaurant or someone who travels a lot for business could really be in a pinch.

Is it the price for doing business in today’s economy?  Do you swallow the costs, feeling it’s what the market can stand? Or are you passing the cost onto your consumers?

I’d love to hear from you to get an idea of what’s going on…

Running a kitchen table business while holding down a job is not easy for me. On one hand you have turbulence with prices of items (gas, food) going up and items on the other hand (technology) going down.

The only thing I can do is be smart. Constantly and relentlessly improve every area of my business.

For example I even cut out UPC labels from the products I use and send to the manufacturer. In return I get 4-6 product vouchers for free items. (ref: no coupon clipping ebook)

I can and will do what I need to survive through a rough patch. Like trying out an unpaid intern program (ref: woodymaxim.com).

The last thing I want to be doing is asking for a handout.

My company’s office is 4 miles from my home… and I am now riding my bike on every sunny day. My co-workers all work from home at least one day a week, and we are bumping it to two.

I think face to face time is critical and working from home is actually far more efficient (plus the gas savings). We are trying to strike the balance… and save on communting costs.
