Get it done faster. Part 2.

by ShannonCherry on January 24th, 2008

It’s very easy to get rapped up in things that don’t get you where you need to be. Remind yourself of this: when you are sitting at your computer or whatever looking at a list of things to do, look at it from a monetary standpoint. What is most important for my business now? What can wait?

That’s the monetary approach you should take, but from a management standpoint, you also must consider what needs to be done in the course of your business.

And that means, before anything else, take care of the customer.

You can go after all the new business you want, but ALWAYS take care of your new, current or established clients or customers first! If you lose one, it will cost you more to replace them than it would have cost to keep them.

Here’s how I try to prioritize:

writing priorities1) Customers always come first.

2) Then the general management and routines of your business that keep the business running smoothly.

3) Prospects & lead follow ups.

4) Then development and projects.

Of course, these are my priorities. How do you prioritize?

Priorities can help you decide what to do when you are swamped. Being swamped is a good problem to have and it causes you to have business processes down to get things done quicker. I learned from James Brausch that it is better to have the process written down than in your head. This helps if you are out of the office and need someone else to finish where you left off.
