Are you in one worst states for starting a business? I am.
Money Magazine just released a report on the best and worst states to start a business in the US.
Not surprisingly, my state, New York, is ranked in the bottom five. I’ll admit, we’re lucky to have New York City in our state, because if we didn’t we’d be the worst! (That honor goes to Washington, DC.) As a small business owner, I can tell you personally they have several “Jim Crow”-type laws that make it nearly impossible to compete with the bigger companies - especially for much-coveted state contracts.
The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council’s rankings were based on more than 25 indicators, but it looks like they focused a lot on taxes.
So where is your state in the rankings? Would you move to a better state (like South Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming) to build your business?
