Jim Estill’s an incredible success story. Canadian boy (woohoo!), starts by selling computer equipment out of his car. Some time later he’s running EMJ Data, which went public and made oodles and oodles of money. He’s now CEO of SYNNEX.
SYNNEX sells over a billion dollars of computer equipment in Canada each year. A freaking […]

Far be it from me to hijack the entire community of people visiting b5media for business-related content! As much as I’m happy to have you onboard, I also want to make sure my fellow b5 bloggers are well-represented.
b5’s Business Channel launched a few weeks ago with an initial set of blogs. This one, and a […]

One of the things I want to do with Startup Spark is let others communicate through me. I’m not psychic (far as I can tell) so that means reaching out into the entrepreneurial and startup communities to meet people and speak with them.
And ultimately to ask them really, really tough questions.
I’ve already got a […]

The number of people running businesses off eBay is staggering. Whether they’re full-time or part-time gigs, people are making lots and lots of money on eBay.
Are they all entrepreneurs? Nope, of course not. Plenty of people are on eBay selling a few things here and there, or using it to junk excess stuff. Those […]

We know what a perfect entrepreneur looks like, but what about a crappy one?
At morebusiness.com they list two bad traits for entrepreneurs:

So BusinessWeek profiles the top 25 entrepreneurs under 25 and guess how many women make the list?

Sumaya Kazi was the one woman profiled. She’s co-founder of The CulturalConnect, a media publishing company for connecting young minority professionals with each other and to the nonprofit world.
1 out of 25. Can’t say I like those odds…
A […]

When you think “young entrepreneur” you immediately think “dot com” or “Web 2.0.” It’s natural. Lots of Web 2.0 businesses are started by young entrepreneurs and young = cool, right? Fair enough, but what I love to see is a young entrepreneur tackling a non-sexy problem…or, for us older folk (OK, I’m not that old) […]

BusinessWeek recently released an article ranking 25 of the best young entrepreneurs in the United States. The criteria was that they had to be 25 years old or younger. The candidates came from people’s submissions to BusinessWeek. If I’m reading it right they only had around 300 submissions, which isn’t a huge sample.
Still, the […]

If we had the technology to build people, could we build the perfect entrepreneur?
I’ll be Dr. Frankenstein, you be Igor, ok?
Let’s give this a try…
Is there a typical entrepreneur? A personality mashup that screams “this person’s an entrepreneur!”
If I was looking at myself and other entrepreneurs I know, I might say:
- borderline ego maniac
- maniacally […]
